Tanjung Lesung, one of the 10 places being promoted as an upcoming tourist destination, has showcased its potential at the three-day Tanjung Lesung Fascination Festival 2017, from Sept. 22 to 24.
During the event, PT Banten West Java (BWJ), the company tasked with developing the area, kicked off the construction of the Rhino Dive Center that is expected to become an icon of the destination.
The company is also preparing to construct a large marina and supporting facilities for yachts and cruise ships that is expected to transport wealthy tourists to the area.
BWJ president director Poernomo Siswoprasetijo said the construction of the dive center was an initial step to introduce Tanjung Lesung to tourists.
He said the central government, through the Tourism Ministry, was now supporting his company by intensifying efforts to train local staff in managing the dive center.
“While the dive center is under construction the staff are undergoing training. After construction is finished the center can immediately become operational,” he added as reported by tribunnews.com.
The marina project, he said, was still undergoing a feasibility study before beginning construction so that it can accommodate large cruise ships, and replace the existing mini-marina that can only accommodate small ships. Poernomo said his company had prepared Rp 300 billion (US$22.51 million) to construct the marina and other supporting facilities.
