A suicide bomber has attacked a police station in Central Java, Indonesia, killing himself and injuring a police officer, according to a local police official.
National Police Chief Badrodin Haiti said that the suicide bomber in Solo is suspected to have been involved in the Thamrin bombing back on January 14, 2016. He was a member of the network lead by Arif Hidayatullah, also known as Abu Mush’ab, who had been arrested by police in Bekasi in mid-December 2015.
“Police carried out the raid in Bekasi,” Badrodin said in a press conference in Surakarta on Tuesday, July 5, 2016, adding that the Police managed to arrest several people during the raid, including several Chinese Uighurs.
According to Badrodin, one person, known to be Nur Rohman, managed to escape the raid, and is suspected to be the perpetrator of the suicide bombing in Surakarta.
Badrodin added that the Police had been tracing Nur Rohman’s whereabouts “and was last seen in East Java.”
However, the Police claimed to have lost track of his location until today, when Nur Rohman blew himself up at the Surakarta Police Headquarter. The police said the suicide bomber killed in Solo this morning had wanted to attack police officers conducting a morning briefing at the Solo Police headquarters, but was intercepted before he forced his way into the precinct.
