Commission III formed Forest Fires Standing Committee to investigate the cessation of forest fires legal cases. Committee Chairman Benny K Harman calls there must be clarity about this environmental crime.
“It’s a very serious problem. Police set a number of companies as suspects, but like a thunderstorm, the regional police in several areas publish SP3 on number of companies that have become suspect, “Benny said in the Parliament Building, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday (14/09/2016).
Forest Fires Standing Committee invited a number of parties, from the Ministry of LHK up to the DPRD Riau which also has a similar special committee. Police chief of Riau, South Sumatra, Jambi, West Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan and Papua are also scheduled to be invited.
“We ask explanation of law enforcement in transparency and accountability. What has been through the legal process or nonlegal process, there is a political intervene, “said Benny.
By next week, Forest Fires Standing Committee would seek an explanation from the 15 companies that issued SP3. One that will be asked is about the legal standing of the company. Benny said that there are indications of fictitious companies among them.
“How can a fictional company become a suspect?” Said Vice Chairman of Commission III.
A number of expert witnesses in the field of environmental law and NGOs will also be invited. Standing Committee targeted work for 6 weeks.
“These forest fires are a serious crime,” added Benny.
