JAKARTA — Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) is predicted to announce a vice presidential candidate who will accompany Joko “Jokowi” Widodo in the near future, precisely after simultaneous 2018 Regional Head Elections (Pilkada). This was said by political analyst Faris Thalib to reporters on Tuesday (3/6/2018).
Furthermore, the name of running mate will likely be announced after seeing the results of 2018 Pilkada, held simultaneously in 171 areas on June 27, 2018. “If in the Pilkada PDIP wins, it is possible that a person of Mega’s circle to be proposed to accompany Jokowi,” said Executive Director of Indonesia Political Studies, Faris, predicting.
Still according to him, the winning position in Pilkada is a very strong capital. Thus, any name that will accompany Jokowi does not affect much the results of 2019 Presidential Election. Unlike if in the 2018 Pilkada the results obtained by PDIP are not too significant.
If that happens, then most likely the name proposed to be vice president comes from an agreement with high-ranking officials of other political parties.
“I think anticipating the possibility of losing, PDIP will establish communication with several other parties, including the Democratic Party and PKB [National Awakening Party], related to the name of vice president who will be carried,” said Faris again.
