The results of a survey by researchers from the Indonesian Survey Circle (LSI) resulted in interesting findings. It is said that there are five national figures who have the capacity to become vice presidential candidate to accompany Jokowi in the 2019 presidential election. They are the Chairman of Golkar, Airlangga Hartarto; former Chairman of the Constitutional Court (MK), Mahfud M.D.; Chief of Polri, General Pol Tito Karnavian, Head of the Office of Presidential Staff, Moeldoko; and Finance Minister, Sri Mulyani Indarwati.
The findings are based on qualitative studies by inviting 30 experts from various backgrounds in three zones of Indonesia. Quantitative survey used multistage random sampling method in 33 provinces. Margin of error survey plus minus 2.9%. Survey numbers may decrease or increase by 2.9%. The survey was funded independently by LSI Denny JA.
Meanwhile, PDIP Chairman of the PDIP, Hendrawan Supratikno, said that at this time his party is still finalizing the list of priority names of vice presidential candidate to accompany Jokowi. The numbers are three to five names.
Hendrawan claimed not know who is on the short list and priority, but in the long list there are names of Muhaimin Iskandar and Mahfud. “(Muhaimin) is on the long list, but whether it is a short list and a priority, only PDIP chairman and President Jokowi know,” he said.
PPP Chairman, Romahurmuziy, said that Jokowi had pocketed 10 names that would be his vice president candidates and the names had been submitted to the chairman of the supporting party. He did not reveal who they are, only mention 10 names that come from the politicians, intellectuals, retired TNI Police, technocrats, and professionals.
The public is curious. Most of the public raised its enthusiasm, especially in relation to the likely election of nonpartisan vice president candidates to move forward with Jokowi in the 2019 presidential election.
If we examine the LSI survey, which sticks out four names: Tito, Moeldoko, Mahfud, and Sri Mulyani. However, if we look back, the names like Rizal Ramli, Gatot Nurmantyo, Chairul Tanjung, Din Syamsudin, to Said Aqil Siradj no less prominent.
Which of these names has been included in Jokowi’s radar? There are no official publications. However, the public can already read the direction of choice Jokowi to accompany him based on his choice of Jusuf Kalla. Jokowi need a companion figure who has mass, also have financial support.
Does any of the above mentioned candidates meet these two preconditions? Of course there is, Chairul Tanjung. The top businessman who is mentioned as the manager of Anthony Salim’s wealth has the capacity of political support and more than enough funds to move forward.
If the financial support business is ruled out, the sticking out is the name of Sri Mulyani. The former Director of the World Bank is known to the public for its myriad achievements, especially in undertaking state financial reforms through a significant increase in tax revenues. She succeeded in pursuing and fulfilling the ambitious tax targets of Jokowi-JK’s government. Even for 2018, up to the first semester, the achievement of state tax revenues has touched 40% of the Rp1,424 trillion target set.
Sri Mulyani also considered many people have more than enough capacity to open more cooperation opportunities between Indonesia and the state and international donor agencies. Especially through its prowess to convince the global rating agencies to embed the positive level so that Indonesia only need cheap funds to hook new loans. Her achievement in becoming an important figure behind the country’s economic stability during the period 2014-2019 is the plus of this alumnus of the University of Indonesia.
Then, how about vice president candidates who has a lot of mass?
Here comes the name of Din Syamsudin and Said Aqil. Both are publicly known as the two religious leaders of the two largest mass organizations of Muhammadiyah and Nahdlatul Ulama (NU). Jusuf Kalla had been tried this combination with former Chairman of PBNU, Hasyim Muzadi. Although not qualified, they still have a significant voice.
As the last cluster, the TNI and Police, sticking out the names of Gatot and Tito. Both are brilliant officers in their own union. Gatot and Tito’s achievement to the top of defense and security institutions of this country certainly not a process that necessarily. Support from many circles can not be denied from the their achievements.
Related to this, Indo Barometer Executive Director, Muhammad Qodari, said that if Jokowi wants his vice presidential candidates from politician, he will most likely choose Airlangga from Golkar or Wiranto from Hanura. However, these two names can only be advanced on condition that they have to get support from other coalition parties. If you look at the existing construction and based on the experience of the previous president, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, the most neutral elected as vice president candidate is from among the non party.
Meanwhile, political analyst Saiful Mujani Research Center (SMRC), Djayadi Hanan, to the media said there are two criteria that would likely be a consideration by Jokowi in choosing vice president candidate. First, from the non-party to avoid the emergence of jealousy for the party supporting Jokowi. Jokowi carried by five coalition parties: PDIP, Golkar, Hanura, Nasdem and PPP.
The second criteria, from a religious group because of the consideration of a combination of president and vice president between nationalist and religious. “However, the voices of the masses and santri are crucial,” he said.
In addition, there are other considerations that must be considered by Jokowi to determine the companion: chemistry. Well, if referring to that choice, then the public will point his finger at two figures who have strong chemistry with Jokowi: Sri Mulyani and Tito.
It was rumored that President Jokowi had pocketed the name of vice president candidate who would accompany him in the 2019 presidential election. Jokowi reported the name of the vice president candidate when he met PDIP Chairman Megawati Soekarnoputri at the Batu Tulis Palace, Bogor, Sunday (8/7/2018).
