JAKARTA — Speaker of the House of Representatives Bambang Soesatyo requested that the security of Parliament Building Complex be tightened following the arrest of suspected terrorists at Universitas Riau (Unri) who are allegedly to commit acts of terror in several places, one of which is the House of Representatives building.
“I ask for a follow-up especially at the vulnerable points in the Parliament Complex because there is a ‘rat’ entrance which must be closed immediately. If possible the entrance to the Parliament Complex is small enough so can be controlled,” Bambang said at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Monday (6/4/2018). He said he was not really sure of the threat but still the slightest threat should be anticipated so it does not happen at the Parliament Complex.
According to him, metal detectors have been installed throughout the entrance, especially in locations where people gather in the Parliament Complex. “I also ask the media friends to be wary if there are people who are suspicious especially if carrying a backpack, [we] must be careful because yesterday it was found all the equipments are ready to explode,” he said.
Bambang said the Parliament Complex is one of the vital objects and where the representatives of the people are gathering so that if there is a terror event the echoes are very influential on a national scale. He appeals to media friends not to fell disturbed if there is a little security tightening when entering the Parliament Complex. They are expected to understand this because it is for mutual security and safety.
