Almost all of Australia’s most successful actors move to the United States once their film careers take off.
But Eric Bana still resides in Melbourne in spite of his status as one of Hollywood’s hottest stars.
Speaking with The Sun-Herald on Sunday, the 50-year-old stated: ‘I’m never in LA. Moving’s just never come up as a sensible option.’
But the actor explained to The Sun-Herald that he never relocated to Los Angeles because he rarely shoots films on location there.
He stated: ‘[New Netflix series] Dirty John was the first thing I’ve filmed in California for nine years. It’s one of the reasons I live in Melbourne… there’s no logic to moving’.
Indeed, Eric is soon set to commence filming a new project that’s close to his home in Melbourne.
He’s just been cast in the big-screen adaptation of Jane Harper’s novel, The Dry, which will reportedly be filmed in rural Victoria.
No doubt there will be strong international interest in the project, as the Australian thriller has become an international sensation, having sold more than six million copies.
It comes off the back of Eric’s starring role in Dirty John – another highly-anticipated adaptation.
Based on the gruesome true-crime podcast, the Netflix series sees Eric playing American con artist and sociopath John Meehan.
Last week, Eric spoke to Daily Mail Australia about the methods he used to tap into playing the dark and troubled character.
The star revealed he drew on his past work and concentrated on traits specific to John’s conman behaviours.
‘Getting into the psychology of a that (sociopath con artist), it was very interesting. I just tried to come up with a version of John that spoke to that character type. It was about convincingly portraying what these types of men are like’.
