BOGOR — Prabowo Subianto to run in the presidential election for the third time in 2019. Gerindra Party has officially name him as its presidential candidate during a national coordination meeting (Rakornas) in his residence in Hambalang, West Java, on Wednesday (April 11).
Secretary General of Gerindra Party Ahmad Muzani said Prabowo’s candidacy as presidential candidate was decided following a long process by absorbing the aspirations of the people from various regions.
“Because of these aspirations, Gerindra Party officially nominate Prabowo Subianto as a presidential candidate and at the same time we give full mandate to build coalition and elect vice president candidate,” said Muzani in a written statement.
Earlier, Prabowo declared his readiness in presidential bid if mandated by all Gerindra Party cadres. “With all my energy, with all my soul and body, if the Gerindra Party ordered me to advance in the upcoming presidential election, I am ready to carry out the task,” Prabowo said in his opening speech during Rakornas Gerindra.
In his speech, Prabowo also dismissed the news that he was hesitate and pessimistic to advance in the 2019 presidential election. He asserted, he is a mandate holder.
“I am a mandate holder. I am a fighter of Gerindra Party as long as I am empowered by the Almighty. I can still fight and as long as I am trusted by Gerindra Party. I will do it,” he said.
Rakornas Gerindra was also attended by Honorary Board Chairman of PAN Amien Rais, PAN Chairman Zulkifli Hasan, PKS President Sohibul Iman, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan and Vice Governor of DKI Jakarta Sandiaga Uno.
