JAKARTA — Indonesian Director General of Corrections, Sri Puguh Budi Utami says the former Jakarta governor, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) will by released with parole from the Brimob HQ prison in August 2018.
“Ahok could actually get a parole in August,” Sri Puguh told reporters on Wednesday, July 10. The former East Belitung Regent was convicted on May 9 2017 and sentenced to a 2-year jail time.
He was charged with blasphemy for a statement made pertaining to Al-Maidah verse-51 during a visit to Pramuka Island, Seribu Island, on September 27 2016.
After convicted on May 9 2017, a year later, Ahok filed for a review. Unfortunately, the review of Ahok’s case number No. 11 PK / PID / 2018 was denied Monday, July 26 2018.
Three judges including judge Artidjo Alkostar, Salman Lurhan, and Margiatmo unanimously denied the review. Ahok continues to undergo the punishment process.
Later in August 2018, Ahok will officially have completed his 2-year prison sentence.
