Indonesia’s Dutch-born striker Ezra Walian is on the radar of at least three English professional clubs, one top French club and one club from the Netherlands’ top-tier league Eredivisie, reports have said.
Amsterdam-based Ezra plays for Indonesia’s national team after he was naturalized by the government in March this year. His father Glenn Walian comes from Manado, North Sulawesi.
Kompas.com reported one English Premier League club and two clubs from the English second division are in negotiations to get the 19-year-old signature. Ezra will be out of contract next month and has decided not to stay at his current club Ajax Amsterdam.
“We’ll finalize negotiations in early July,” Ezra’s father Glenn told Kompas on Thursday. “We’ll choose a club who can guarantee a regular place in the starting lineup for him, money isn’t our top priority,” he said.
Meanhwile, another report said that Ezra is also attracting interest from top French club AS Monaco. “According to our trusted sources, AS Monaco, FC Utrecht and Reading are currently in approach to get the player,” Goal.com reported on Friday.
Ezra joined Ajax’s youth team in 2012 and had represented the Netherlands’ junior national team several times before deciding to play for Indonesia.
He is currently with Indonesia’s U22 squad in Bali to join the team’s preparation for the Southeast Asian Games in August.
